The specialist global insurer Hiscox has today announced that Gareth Hemming will be stepping into a new role as chief distribution officer for Hiscox UK. His appointment is effective from October 1, 2023.

According to a Press release, Hemming spent the last 33 years at Aviva where he held a variety of senior positions, most recently serving as chief distribution officer. Based in Manchester, he will report to Hiscox UK CEO Jon Dye and join the Hiscox UK leadership team.

Among his responsibilities, Hemming will lead Hiscox’s UK’s trading strategy to drive profitable growth with brokers and head up the broker trading teams across the UK, including the regional operations, schemes and art & private clients.

Commenting on the appointment, Dye said: “Gareth is an accomplished leader and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role. He has a track record of delivering commercial performance, leading businesses through change and creating highly effective teams.

“His in-depth industry knowledge and established broker relationships will help us further improve our broker distribution and deliver against our growth ambitions”.

Hemming also discussed his move and said he is excited to be joining the business at such an important time in its growth strategy. He identified Hiscox’s “clear ambition” as well as its “fantastic team, good momentum and strong values”.

He added: “I look forward to working with the team and building on their success to date.”

Hemming’s appointment is the latest news in a busy period for Hiscox UK which recently launched several initiatives including a new broker e-trading platform and the Underwriting Academy. In September, the insurer will launch a new brand marketing campaign in the UK – the first since 2018 – before a global roll-out in 2024.
