Two insurers have announced senior distribution appointments this week, each with a wrinkle worth reading beyond the headline move.
Intact Insurance has created a new commercial trading role in the UK, while Westfield Specialty has expanded its European distribution team into the Nordic region.
Intact Insurance has appointed Fraser Edmond (pictured, left) as vice president, commercial sales, distribution and marketing, effective from August 1. The newly created role reports to Tovah Grosscurth, commercial lines managing director.
Edmond founded and led Broker Insights, the commercial insurance data platform, before spending the past two years taking the business into the US market. He previously spent 25 years at Aviva, most recently as broker distribution director.
"Broker relationships are critical to our success," said Grosscurth. She added that strengthening the regional leadership team leaves Intact better placed to deliver consistent, market-leading broker service, and that Edmond's depth of market knowledge and experience across distribution and technology would help accelerate the insurer's ambition to become the best commercial lines insurer in the UK.
The appointment follows Intact's realignment of its local trading sites into four regional areas: Scotland, covering Glasgow; North, covering Manchester and Leeds; South, covering London, Horsham and Maidstone; and Midlands and West, covering Birmingham and Bristol.
A distribution hire with a data-platform background landing at the same time as a regional trading consolidation is worth watching. Brokers used to working with digital tools and data-sharing arrangements are likely to find Edmond's approach a natural fit; those with a more traditional trading style may want to ask their local Intact contact directly whether the regional realignment changes who actually has authority over day-to-day trading decisions on their book, rather than assuming it's business as usual.
Westfield Specialty has appointed Nicole Victoria Preis as head of distribution, Nordics, as the business continues to expand its presence and distribution capabilities across Europe.
Preis will report to Cornelia Roskau, chief executive of Westfield Specialty International (Europe) S.A., with a matrix reporting line to Sarah McNally, head of distribution international. She will lead Westfield Specialty's distribution strategy across the Nordic region, developing relationships with brokers and partners and supporting delivery of the business's specialty insurance proposition to clients there.
The move follows the 2025 establishment of Westfield Specialty's European company market platform in Luxembourg, which allows the business to write risks on company paper alongside its existing capacity through Lloyd's Syndicate 1200.
"Expanding our reach into the Nordics is an important step in our European growth strategy, and Nicole's appointment gives us an opportunity to build strong local relationships on the ground as we expand our offering across Europe and outside the Lloyd's market," said Roskau. She added that Preis brings extensive experience working with brokers and clients across the Nordic market, which would be invaluable in building the business's regional presence and offering brokers and clients greater choice and flexibility.
Her appointment adds to a run of recent senior distribution hires at Westfield Specialty, including McNally's own in October 2025.
