UPDATE: B.P. Marsh has clarified that Howard Green will serve as chairman of the Pantheon Group while Alasdair Ritchie remains as chair of trading company Pantheon Specialty.

Pantheon Specialty Limited has a new chairman, less than a year after the London-based insurance brokerage was introduced to the market.

Launched in June 2023, Pantheon was set up by chief executive Robert Dowman with the backing of specialist private equity investor B.P. Marsh and Partners Plc, which owns a quarter of the business. When the partnership was announced last year, Denison and Partners founder Alasdair Ritchie was named chairman of Pantheon.

Denison and Partners, a Lloyd’s broker, was acquired by Pantheon upon the latter’s establishment. At the time, it was noted that Ritchie – CEO at Denison and Partners from its inception in 2022 – would serve as chair of both firms while Dowman held the chief executive post for the two companies.

Now it’s been revealed that Besso Insurance Group co-founder and ex-chairman Howard Green is stepping in as Pantheon chair.

“Pantheon will be appointing Howard Green, the former chairman of Besso Insurance Group Limited, to the board, subject to regulatory approval,” B.P. Marsh noted in an update. “Howard will also assume the role of group chairman.

“Howard was one of Besso’s founding members and architects and has considerable experience in building and leading international broking businesses.”

Green is no stranger to the founder of Pantheon, who was a joint CEO at Besso before Dowman left in 2022.

“I am delighted that Howard is joining the board of Pantheon and becoming our group chairman,” Dowman said. “Howard’s experience and knowledge will be a great asset to Pantheon in achieving our long term-growth aspirations. I look forward to working with him once again.”

Since B.P. Marsh’s investment in Pantheon, it has provided the brokerage with a loan facility worth £4.5 million.
