Top rural insurer NFU Mutual has expanded its board of directors with a double addition.

Joining the line-up are both Jon Bailie and Ali Capper. Bailie has more than 30 years of experience in the asset management industry with the likes of AXA Investment Managers, Pioneer Investments and Russell Investments. He began his new role in March.

“NFU Mutual has a great reputation for putting its members first,” said Bailie. “Its capital position makes it financially strong and its Life business is going through a really exciting transformation. I have joined the board at a very interesting time and I look forward to helping the company develop and grow its life business.”

Meanwhile, Capper had served on NFU Mutual’s regional advisory board for the Midlands since 2014 and runs Stocks Farms, a business that takes in 100 acres of hops and 100 acres of apples. In addition, Ali is chairman of NFU Horticulture & Potatoes Board, and English Apples & Pears, director of the British Hop Association, trustee of the Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust, and a director of Wye Fruit.

“NFU Mutual is part of the bed-rock of UK agriculture,” said Ali. “Since 1910 it has been protecting the businesses and families of farmers and growers and remains a strong mutual run for the benefit of members. It also provides financial support for the NFU.

“In my new role I will be working to ensure that NFU Mutual provides the right products for today’s farms and rural businesses and continues to deliver its renowned local service to its members and supports them through the current challenging times for farmers.”
