Pinpoint UK completes regulatory build-out with FCA approval

Pinpoint UK Solutions Ltd has received authorisation from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), allowing the London-based managing general agent to operate as a directly authorised firm in the UK market.

The FCA authorisation marks Pinpoint UK’s transition to full regulatory independence. The MGA was established in 2024 under AM Specialty Insurance Group and had operated under the regulatory guidance of Resolution Underwriting since launch.

The authorisation follows the firm’s Lloyd’s coverholder approval in December 2025. That approval permitted Pinpoint UK to bind risks on behalf of a Lloyd’s syndicate under delegated authority arrangements. It was itself a step up from the firm’s earlier appointed representative status under Resolution Underwriting.

Building out the London platform

Darren Powell, chief executive officer of ASIC UK, said the authorisation gives the firm a stronger foundation.

“Receiving FCA authorisation is a significant step forward for Pinpoint UK,” he said. “It provides the foundation for us to further develop our UK platform, strengthen our market presence, and continue delivering thoughtful, focused solutions to our partners.”

Pinpoint UK sits within AM Specialty Insurance Group, which also owns AM Specialty Insurance Company, AM Star Claims and AM RE Syndicate. The group has been building its London presence steadily since establishing Pinpoint UK in 2024.

The FCA authorisation represents the most significant regulatory step in that build-out to date.

A market leaning harder on delegated authority

The milestone arrives as delegated authority gains traction across the London market. As specialty pricing softens, carriers are strengthening MGA partnerships to access business closer to its source. This shift reinforces the strategic rationale behind Pinpoint UK’s build-out as a directly authorised firm.

Charles Rowley, managing director at DA Strategy, said carriers are building more MGA relationships “from a geographic perspective, so that carriers can have that more local partnership presence.”

Powell added the business would continue to grow with what he described as “discipline, technical expertise, and long-term partnership at its core.”
