In August jobs website Glassdoor announced the UK’s best firms for interviews, based on feedback from applicants themselves. Now a new list has been released – naming the best places to work in 2018, according to employees.

For insurers and brokers wondering who among your peers made it to the UK list, here’s a hint: two companies from the industry are among the best places to work, as revealed by anonymous reviews voluntarily provided by workers. Qualified employers are those with a staff of at least 1,000.

Here are the top 10 – out of the 50 on the list – best places to work in the UK in 2018, as per the Employees’ Choice Awards by Glassdoor:
1. Google
2. Anglian Water
3. Bromford
4. Facebook
5. Salesforce
6. Lookers
7. Rentokil Initial
8. Hiscox
9. Apple
10. HomeServe UK

“Engaging, intelligent people surrounding you and opportunities to develop yourself with driven, bright people that have been successful in their careers with Hiscox,” said a Hiscox employee in Colchester. “Lots of autonomy, you are treated like an adult and trusted to get your job done.”

The other insurer on the list of 50 best places to work in the UK next year is Royal London at number 19.

“I’ve been at Royal London for a while now. It’s a company with a clear and admirable ethos,” noted a Royal London employee. “The people are what make it such an enjoyable place to work and I can also say there’s a healthy work/life balance.”

Workplace attributes taken into account for the ranking were overall company rating, career opportunities, compensation & benefits, culture & values, senior management, work/life balance, and business outlook, as well as whether employees would recommend their employer to a friend. Glassdoor has reviews and insights for over 700,000 firms in more than 190 countries.

“We know today’s job seekers are more informed than ever about where they go to work, researching everything from company culture to career opportunities to pay philosophy and more,” commented Glassdoor chief executive and co-founder Robert Hohman. “To help people find companies that stand out from the pack, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards recognise employers that are truly Best Places to Work because they’re determined by those who really know best – the employees.”
