Gloucester-based Numark Insurance Services (NIS), which is headed up by commercial director Ian Smith, has been acquired by London-headquartered Tasker Insurance Brokers (TIB).

“Ian Smith is undoubtedly a recognised specialist within the pharmacy sector and I am delighted that he agreed to join us to drive this important proposition forward,” said Tasker Insurance Group (TIG) chief executive Robert Organ.

“Having chatted with the team at Phoenix and Numark, he is clearly very well respected, both by them and within the marketplace. He and his team will be a real asset to our business and I was delighted to welcome them onboard.”

A Phoenix Healthcare Distribution Ltd division, NIS is the biggest membership organisation for independent pharmacies in the UK. The administration for all NIS policies will now be taken over by TIG, which believes the deal will boost its retail broking unit’s proposition in the area of specialist affinity.

Commenting on the swoop, TIB managing director Robin Thomson noted: “Tasker Insurance continues to develop its clear vision and build our specialist broking capabilities in the areas of technology, life sciences, PI, financial lines, and medical malpractice in addition to extending our regional retail broking footprint.

“We will continue with our strategy to both grow organically and by acquisition.”

The transaction, financial terms of which were not disclosed, will see Smith’s team come onboard the specialist retail broking division within the broader retail business while staying put in Gloucester.

“I am personally very excited to be joining Tasker Insurance,” stated the commercial director. “It is a fast-moving business with a clear vision and a real focus on its clients and people. I know that both the team and I will thrive in this environment and be able to successfully grow and develop individually and professionally.”
