Industry veteran Steve Hardwick has returned to Willis Towers Watson as the new director of the international re/insurance broker.

In his new London-based role, Hardwick will work across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and develop business management and strategic support for insurers.

Hardwick said he looks forward to addressing insurance industry issues and creating value for stakeholders.

"With Solvency II now part of business-as-usual, companies are facing fresh challenges posed by MiFID2, IFRS 4 and the threat/opportunity of digital, as well as the day-to-day matters of new sales, products, services and execution,” Hardwick said.

The company said Hardwick’s return is a major boost to its UK life business, which continues to expand.

Hardwick has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, having spent the last two years at Milliman in Stockholm where he was head of consulting in the Nordics.

A former group chief actuary and group CRO at Skandia, Hardwick has extensive experience in advising clients in the areas of strategy, reconstructions, demutualisation, mergers and acquisitions, asset and liability management, financial management and risk control.

Hardwick previously worked for Willis Towers Watson from 1988 and 2002, and led the local office in Sweden from 1999.

“Steve’s extensive experience will be a real asset to the UK Life business, with the advantage of also being able to leverage his considerable network and deep knowledge of the Nordics and Continental Europe,” said Frank Schepers, Willis Towers Watson EMEA leader.
