Major international insurer Zurich has vowed to further promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace with a number of new initiatives.

During a recent conference in Hong Kong, the global player made commitments to encourage diversity and inclusion, which include the initiative FlexWork@Zurich, The China Money Network reported.

The launching of the global initiative seeks to improve its employees’ access to more flexible working options, according to the report.

The report added that Zurich has also launched a new group medical insurance programme in Hong Kong which covers the unmarried partners of its employees, regardless of their gender.

"At Zurich we see Diversity & Inclusion as a business imperative,” the report quoted Zurich Hong Kong CEO Eric Hui as saying.

“A diverse and inclusive environment encourages people to respect and embrace different individuals, which can boost morale and enable employees to reach their full potential,” he added.

Zurich also took pride in being the first global insurance company to receive an Economic Dividends for Gender Equality certification.

According to the insurer, the recognition reflects its commitment to improve workplace gender equality, particularly in the areas of fair hiring and promotion processes, pay equality and flexible working arrangements.
