Zurich Insurance Group has announced the appointments of Ralph Brand as global head of casualty, financial lines and cyber, and Chris Waterman as global head of property, marine and technical lines. Zurich said the appointments simplified its underwriting function by aligning the shorter-tail first-party coverages and the longer-tail third-party liability coverages.

“The insurance industry continues to evolve, and having the ability to provide customers with tailor-made solutions and advice is critical for our future success,” said Sierra Signorelli, commercial insurance chief underwriting officer for Zurich. “This new setup will enable us to combine our expertise and resources across business lines and make better and more efficient underwriting decisions for our customers.”

Both Brand and Waterman have more than 30 years of industry experience. Brand joined Zurich in 2012 as CEO of Zurich Germany. He left the company in 2016 to start his own business and rejoined in 2019 as head of global casualty. He has also held roles at AIG and Allianz in both Europe and the United States.

Waterman joined Zurich in 2016 in Singapore, where he most recently served as head of commercial lines underwriting for APAC. Prior to joining Zurich, he held various leadership roles at AIG.
