Broking giant Willis Towers Watson is ready to take its climate and resilience hub to a new level, announcing a senior director of science and analytics.

The company has brought in Matt Foote from the World Bank’s Disaster Risk Financing and Insurance Programme to take the role. Foote will be based in London and will focus on integrating climate information and expertise into the company’s risk management and decision-making systems. According to a release, his appointment comes in response to a host of new regulatory and investment requirements, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, as well as the introduction of several new stress tests.

Foote brings with him some extensive experience having been one of the first catastrophe modellers at Willis Re back in the 1990s. He has also held senior roles at Argo Group and Mitsui Sumitomo Lloyd’s Syndicate 3210.

“It is a pleasure to be back at Willis Towers Watson, contributing to the work of a world leading team, ensuring our clients are fully prepared to meet the evolving climate and wider risks communities and organisations face in the years and decades ahead,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rowan Douglas, head of the Climate and Resilience Hub at Willis Towers Watson, noted that he was “delighted” to welcome Foote back.

“He brings a wealth of experience in taking science and analytics across a wide range of perils and integrating that into the DNA of financial institutions’ risk evaluation, management and disclosure within evolving regulatory frameworks across public and private sectors,” he said. “This is at the heart of the climate, pandemic and wider resilience challenges we are helping our clients and market partners to solve.”
