Policy Expert’s van fleet, which is core to the digital home insurer’s in-house claims service, is now 22-strong.

The number translates to a quadrupling of the fleet’s size, from just five first response vans. Policy Expert said the goal is to provide rapid support to customers, with the vehicles now able to reach 90% of policyholders within hours.

Kitted out with exclusive, high-tech drying equipment, the 22 vans are designed to minimise the impact of flooding. Based on incoming weather patterns, the vans are also positioned in the most at-risk areas for quicker response.   

“We are committed to harnessing the best hardware and software to safeguard people’s homes as more customers switch their cover to Policy Expert in their thousands,” said co-founder and chief operating officer Adam Powell (pictured). “The result of our investment is a wholly owned first response capability which we believe is one of a kind in the insurance sector.

Powell added: “By analysing weather data and mobilising vans across the country, we can get our technology into customers’ homes as quickly as possible to minimise water damage.

“In some cases, our approach means we can alert customers to incidents and be ready on their doorsteps to start the drying process before they’d even know there was a problem if we hadn’t intervened.”
