Marine insurance may be one of the oldest building blocks of the insurance industry, but one company is making sure that its offering in the space is fit for the 21st century.

Global loss adjuster and claims management firm Cunningham Lindsey has launched a new mobile app for its marine practice, it revealed yesterday. The CL Marine app will allow its clients across the world to identify, locate and contact a relevant marine expert when they have an enquiry or a loss.

Ton Schox, head of marine for continental Europe, and marine specialist practice group leader at the firm, told Insurance Business that technology will increasingly play a part in the marine sector as the wider landscape develops.

“In the future, I think we will see a lot of changes,” Schox said. “More and more, everything needs to be done quickly, by email, digitally. Cyber risks are becoming increasingly important too. Technology and compliance are two big areas.”

Even the potential uses of blockchain in the marine space are beginning to be assessed, he said, with trials taking place as to how the emerging technology can be used to track cargo being shipped from one country to another.

On the launch of the CL Marine app, which is available globally, Schox said that communication with clients is a “vital part” of the business’s role.

“As such, Cunningham Lindsey is always looking at new and better ways to help deliver our high-quality services. The new app is a great example of this, allowing clients far greater access to our international expertise, directly from their phone or device,” he said.

The service has been ‘future-proofed’ so that it can continually update when necessary, and combines “state-of-the-art technology with an intuitive layout that allows clear navigation with the distinctive Cunningham Lindsey feel.”

A “powerful search facility” uses filters or free text search, allows favourites to be saved and for information to be downloaded as a vCard or shared on other services such as Google+ or WhatsApp.

Clients can also contact experts directly, clicking through the app to either call or email them, saving time when they need it most. It is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
