After more than five decades in the industry, Laurence Jones (pictured above), a seasoned professional with an 18-year tenure at TT Club, has announced his retirement plans, with 2024 being his final year.

Jones’ distinguished 52-year career encompasses a wide range of expertise, including general management, operations, and various engineering disciplines, among others. His work has spanned several industries, from bulk materials handling and container terminals to logistics and manufacturing.

Before joining TT in December 2006, Jones spent 26 years with BHP Billiton and eight years in container terminal operations with P&O Ports, followed by a role in facilitating the integration of P&O Ports with DP World.

Renowned for his active participation in industry events, Jones has been a notable figure, often moderating discussions and engaging with audiences to deepen the dialogue on pertinent issues. His involvement extends to serving on boards and technical panels for the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA) and advocating for safety through the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) and the International Association of Ports & Harbors (IAPH).

Peregrine Storrs-Fox, director of risk management at TT, praised Jones for his understanding of port and terminal operations and his passion for improving safety and security measures.

“I’m pleased that Laurence has agreed to dedicate this year to continuing to transfer his skills and knowledge within the business, including to last year’s newcomers, Neil Dalus and Josh Finch, who are already expanding the capacity of the loss prevention function to deliver TT’s high standards of risk assessment and risk management output,” Storrs-Fox said.
