Ecclesiastical is expanding its operations in Scotland following a rise in new business activity in the region. The specialist insurer is doubling the size of its Scottish team and opening a new office in Glasgow to support the growth.
Alexander Connon has joined as development account manager, working alongside Gerard Hamilton, strategic account manager, and Caroline Quinn, development underwriter. Another development underwriter is expected to join the team in May.
The team will be based at 9 George Square, located in Glasgow’s central business district. The office is part of Ecclesiastical’s northern region, which is led by regional director Andy Williamson. The space is designed to support in-person engagement with brokers and clients and will also serve as a base for future growth.
The company noted that the office aligns with its broader environmental objectives. The building has an EPC B rating, and the relocation is part of a strategy to operate from properties with lower carbon footprints.
The Glasgow office is set to officially open on April 24, with a reception for brokers and customers held by invitation.
The building, originally constructed in 1922 as the McLaren Warehouse and Repository, is recognised by Historic Environment Scotland for its architectural significance. The Glasgow move follows a similar relocation by the northern team to new offices at 11 York Street in Manchester in 2023.
Dave Carey (pictured above), intermediary managing director at Ecclesiastical UK, said that Scotland represents a significant market for the company and that the opening of the new office reflects the business’s plans for expansion.
Ecclesiastical’s headquarters are located at Benefact House, 2000 Pioneer Avenue, Gloucester Business Park, Brockworth, Gloucester, GL3 4AW, United Kingdom. In addition to its main office, Ecclesiastical operates regional offices in Birmingham, London, and Manchester.
Internationally, the company has a presence in Ireland, Canada, and Australia. As of 2024, the company employs approximately 1,353 individuals at its locations.
Elsewhere, Ecclesiastical Insurance reported a profit before tax of £82.5 million for the year ending December 31, 2024, nearly doubling the £44.8 million achieved in 2023. This performance was supported by an investment result of £71.9 million, reflecting improved market conditions.
