Specialty re/insurer IQUW has announced the recruitment of three key figures to its property division, aiming to bolster broker relations and drive the company's strategic expansion both domestically and globally.

The new team members include Mike Barrett (pictured above, left), appointed as lead underwriter for property direct and facultative (D&F); Jonathan Powell (pictured above, middle), who will serve as senior underwriter for property delegated authority (DA); and Charles Tinworth (pictured above, right), taking on the role of senior property underwriter.

Barrett, bringing over a decade of expertise in managing property insurance with a focus on the US and Canadian markets, will play a crucial role in defining and implementing the strategy for the property D&F segment. He will operate from London, reporting to Robbie MacDonald, the head of property D&F at IQUW.

Before his move to IQUW in January 2024, Barrett was associated with Lockton, holding the position of senior vice president of P&C specialties for close to five years, following a tenure as a senior broker at Prospect Insurance Brokers.

Powell, with an extensive background exceeding four decades in the Lloyd’s and London insurance arenas, is tasked with propelling growth and executing strategic objectives for IQUW's property DA portfolio. His operations will also be London-based, under the guidance of Tom Hennessey, head of property DA.

Powell transitioned to IQUW in February 2024 after a three-year leadership role at Bishopsgate Insurance Brokers and experiences at Neon and Hiscox.

Tinworth joins the team with significant experience in the London and Lloyd’s property insurance markets, set to further enhance the capabilities of IQUW's property division. He will report to MacDonald from the company's London office.

Tinworth, joining in January 2024, previously contributed his skills at Allianz Commercial and AIG, enhancing his profile as a senior property underwriter.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome people of Mike and Charles’ calibre and experience to IQUW. This is yet another example of our commitment to the continued growth of our Property D&F proposition and will further position us to provide the exemplary service and quality of product that clients have come to expect of IQUW,” MacDonald said.
