Media and entertainment company Sky, which in recent years acquired smart home technology provider Neos, has now rolled out its smart home insurance proposition in the UK under the company’s Sky Protect brand.

While Sky Protect was launched in late 2022 to provide building and contents cover, it is only now that the brand is introducing its smart home insurance bundle that features a tech kit, according to multiple publications. The kit, which is said to be valued at £250, is only available to Sky Protect policyholders.

A PA News Agency report published by Largs & Millport said the kit includes a video doorbell, an indoor camera, leak detectors, and other sensors. The Sun described the Sky Protect offering as a “Ring doorbell rival with a twist”.

PA News Agency said the building and contents cover is provided by Zurich; home emergency cover by Inter Partner Assistance; and family legal assistance and cyber assistance by AmTrust Europe.

“At Sky we have a heritage in entering new markets and shaking them up, and we’re about to do the same with home insurance,” The Sun quoted Stephen van Rooyen, Sky UK & Ireland chief executive and Sky Group chief commercial officer, as saying.

“We already make people’s lives easier at home through our TV, broadband, and mobile services, and with Sky Protect we’ll be able to take the pain out of home insurance. From a simpler quotation process, to value you can see every day, to great tech, all working together in the Sky Protect app. We believe people deserve better when it comes to home protection – so we’re going to give it to them.”
