Several insurance companies have been included in this year’s “1000 Companies to Inspire Britain” report by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

These include Direct Insurance Group, Folgate Insurance, Hiscox PLC, NCI Insurance, Reassured, Nexus Underwriting and Helios Underwriting.

According to LSEG, the seventh edition of the report identifies the UK’s most dynamic and fastest-growing small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It added that these businesses are vital in helping the British economy recover from the impact of COVID-19.

“This report highlights the vital role of SMEs in driving economic growth, leading innovation and providing jobs across the UK. In this challenging year for businesses, it is more important than ever to shine a light on these stories of resilience and entrepreneurship,” said David Schwimmer, CEO of LSEG. “The success of UK SMEs is crucial as we rebuild a post COVID-19 economy, and London Stock Exchange Group is committed to helping growth companies achieve their potential.”

To be featured in the report, businesses had to demonstrate strong revenue growth over the past three years and turn in an outstanding performance compared to their peers.

“We were thrilled to be included,” said David Bearman, CEO of Direct Insurance Group. “COVID-19 has had tragic consequences for many families, and it has been a challenging year for everyone across the globe, but I’m delighted to say that as a company we are not just surviving through COVID, we’re thriving.  Since the last lockdown in March, we have recruited 20 new starters and opened two further offices. This is testament to the dedication and commitment of every member of our team across our various businesses and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Similarly, Folgate chief underwriting officer Ian Russell noted it was a "great achievement" for his firm.

"2020 has been an extremely tough year for everyone all around the globe, but there are opportunities out there for businesses to grow - you just need to think outside of the box," he said. "We are fortunate to be a very tech-driven business which has helped us enormously through COVID-19 and our business plans and achievements have not changed post-pandemic. I would like to thank all of our employees for their dedication through such challenging times, they have been a credit to themselves, our partners and, most importantly, our clients."
