Unicorn Underwriting has forayed into the world of small- and medium-sized enterprises.

The London-based managing general agent, part of US-headquartered global broker AmWINS Group, now has an SME division and will initially offer commercial combined, retailers, office & surgery, and property owners products underwritten by Travelers Insurance Company Limited.

Joining the MGA are LV= Broker veterans Kevin Hawkins and Richard Ellis, who spent the past 11 years at the LV= unit building and managing SME accounts. The two – described by Unicorn chief executive Sasa Brcerevic as “very talented, experienced, and skilled leaders” – have been appointed as UK SME underwriting director and UK SME pricing director, respectively.

“The SME market is ripe with opportunity for a fresh, client-centric underwriting agency,” commented Hawkins. “Unicorn enjoys the support of a strong and stable backer in AmWINS and, with policies underwritten by AA-rated Travelers, we have the ideal foundation to offer clients the very best products.”

Aside from the new SME proposition, Unicorn also offers unoccupied residential and commercial property policies.

“Kevin and I have jointly identified a great opportunity in the UK SME insurance market,” noted Ellis. “As part of Unicorn, I am very pleased we’ll be able to offer our broking partners and clients outstanding products and very much looking forward to joining the team.”

Welcoming the double hire, Brcerevic commented: “Having spent many years serving UK SME clients, both have consistent track records in delivering market-beating results.”
