Monzo Bank, the UK-licensed digital lender that already offers phone and travel insurance to its premium account holders, is giving the company’s insurance expansion a boost with the arrival of insurtech founder Phoebe Chibuzo Hugh.

Making the switch from Direct Line Group (DLG) where she served as product innovation head and latterly as venture chief executive, Hugh was the name behind digital insurance brand Brolly prior to its sale to DLG. Before leaving the insurer, she led the launch of Caha!, which is a car ownership and management app.

In a LinkedIn post, Hugh wrote: “I can’t wait to take all my learnings – from starting at Aviva, to building and exiting Brolly, and working with our acquirer Direct Line Group – into this next phase with Monzo. There is no better launchpad for the future of insurance than the UK’s favourite challenger bank.”

According to the Citi alumnus, there’s a clear and compelling opportunity to revolutionise insurance.
