Startupbootcamp InsurTech has announced the top 23 start-ups which will join the next recruitment phase for the accelerator’s 2017 programme.

The start-ups that have been invited to participate in Startupbootcamp’s “Selection Days” on Tuesday and Wednesday include UK firms Blockwise, Insure a Thing, TrackActive, TradeCrediTech, Port and Protektr.

During the two-day event, the start-ups will meet with corporate partners, mentors and investors. They will also participate in an evaluation that helps each venture improve their messaging, find interested parties and propel them into the actual accelerator programme.

“This year has seen a dramatic increase in the number of mature InsurTech start-ups, especially those utilising emerging technology to change the way insurers work,” said Sabine VanderLinden, managing director of Startupbootcamp InsurTech.

“We believe that we have identified 23 great businesses with the eagerness to find solutions to solve life problems or those that insurance customers so desperately desire,” she added.

Startupbootcamp InsurTech chose the 23 firms after five months of scouting start-ups from 43 different countries.

Many of the selected start-ups are using emerging technology to strengthen the value chain and improve customer experience. For instance, South African start-up Aerobotics is using drone technology in the agricultural, logistical, and mining industries to acquire better data analysis and help both farmers and insurers.

Other selected start-ups include Spanish firm Sharenjoy, which uses artificial intelligence to offer collaborative micro insurance for people attending entertainment events. Another start-up, Thinqbot from India, employs IoT/parametric to offer plug and play infrastructure and convert any home into a smart home.

At the end of the Selection Days period, Startupbootcamp InsurTech will choose the 10 start-ups that will enter its cohort beginning in January 2017.

The top 23 start-ups from 12 different countries are the following:
