There is a new arrival at AIG, as Ed Barron makes the switch from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to join the firm in the role of head of international government affairs.

Barron, who will officially take up the role in March, held a host of senior roles at PwC including joining the firm as director back in 2002 and leading its global insurance regulation practice for the last nine years. Now at AIG he is expected to take the reins for developing strategy in relation to legislative and regulatory matters and is seen as a key appointment in “driving the future success of the company.”

“With Ed’s arrival, AIG is gaining a world-class, dedicated expert who understands the interrelation of government affairs around the world and its impact on business,” commented Tom Leonardi, executive vice-president of government affairs, public policy and communications at AIG. “As a global insurer with numerous regulators, Ed’s experience in bringing together a comprehensive approach to best-in-class communications and engagement with our diverse network of stakeholders will be invaluable as we position AIG for the future as a growing, profitable leader in the insurance industry.”

Barron will manage and monitor AIG’s governmental policy outside the US, while also providing strategic counsel for its international businesses.

“I am looking forward to joining a company that is so rich in its heritage, talent and international presence,” said Barron. “After many years of advising leading players in the insurance industry, I look forward to fulfilling my role at AIG as a connector and leading a team that fosters the firm’s global mindset.”
