American International Group (AIG) has announced the appointment of Mark D. Lyons as senior vice president and chief actuary of general insurance. The appointment will take effect June 1.

Lyons will lead AIG’s global actuarial organization and report to Peter Zaffino, CEO of general insurance. He will also serve as a member of the general insurance executive leadership team.

“Mark’s broad and deep expertise, along with his demonstrated track record leading high-performing teams, will be a great asset as we redefine the value we deliver to clients and broker partners in a dynamic risk environment,” Zaffino said.

Lyons is rejoining AIG after serving as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at Arch Capital Group. He joined Arch in 2002, serving in various capacities including chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group. Prior to Arch, Lyons held various positions at Zurich US, Berkshire Hathaway and AIG.

“I am extremely pleased to be rejoining such an iconic brand after nearly 33 years,” Lyons said. “I am also excited to join the impressive leadership team that Peter is building, and I look forward to Actuarial being involved in all areas of the business.”
