The Lloyd’s arm of Argo Group has expanded its credit and political risks team with the hiring of an experienced underwriter from AIG Europe.

ArgoGlobal has appointed Andrew Summers as credit and political risks underwriter. Effective immediately, he will report to Jeremy Shallow, who holds the same position.

Summers joins ArgoGlobal from AIG Europe where he served most recently as political risk senior underwriter.

In his seven years at AIG Europe, Summers was responsible for underwriting risks for a broad range of insureds including corporations, financial institutions and commodity traders across the full suite of political risk products.

Summers also worked at Aon in 2007 where he was appointed as crisis management broker in the political risk department.

“Andrew is a highly talented underwriter, whose technical acumen, contacts and market understanding will be invaluable as we develop our proposition,” Shallow said of Summers.

ArgoGlobal’s expansion of its credit and political risks team is timely as “today’s uncertain geopolitical landscape offers opportunities” for the marketplace, according to Shallow.

“We have significant ambitions to further develop our presence in this class and by virtue of our lack of legacy issues and risk exposure, we are able to adapt quickly and to look at new risks with an open mind,” he said.
