AXIS Insurance, the specialty insurance business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings, has announced the appointment of Thomas Uribe as an assistant vice president for its US excess casualty business. Uribe will be based in Alpharetta, Ga., and will report to Britt Smith, senior vice president and regional manager, US excess casualty.

In his new role, Uribe will be responsible for broadening relationships with distribution partners, expanding new business opportunities and the execution of underwriting strategy.

“Thomas brings significant excess casualty underwriting experience and expertise, along with the ability to facilitate and nurture strong broker relationships that will help us meet the complex risk needs of our clients,” Smith said. “Our opportunity is to engage brokers and clients as they navigate the excess casualty marketplace. We are problem-solvers, providing options, alternatives and results. The addition of Thomas to our US excess casualty team will further strengthen the insights we bring to our partners in distribution as the market evolves.”

Prior to joining AXIS, Uribe served as a senior underwriter for E&S excess casualty for AXA XL’s Western, Central and Southeast US regions. He has also served as a senior casualty underwriter for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance and has held roles at Swiss Re and AIG.
