The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (Big “I”) has named W. Michael McBride, president of Mason-McBride in Troy, Michigan, as its chairman for the 2023 to 2024 term.

With over 35 years of experience in insurance and financial services, McBride previously served as the Michigan director on the national association board and as chair on the Trusted Choice board of directors.

Additionally, he served as the executive committee liaison and was a member of the technical affairs committee. In 2017, he was elected to the Big “I” executive committee.

McBride was elected chairman during the Big “I” Fall Leadership Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“Independent agents play crucial roles in our country’s economy, and we are proud to support them with the tools they need to thrive and excel,” he said.

“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve at the national level as the Big ‘I’ guides its members to innovate in a changing work environment and challenging marketplace.”

In addition to Mike McBride's installation, Todd Jackson of McGowan Insurance Group in Indianapolis, Indiana, took the oath as the Big “I” chairman-elect, and Lou Moran III of Inter-Agency Insurance Service in Knoxville, Tennessee, assumed the position of vice chair.

McBride succeeds John Costello, SVP at USI Insurance Services in Rochester, New York, who will continue to serve on the Big “I” Executive Committee for an additional year as immediate past chair.

“Mike’s dedication to the independent agency channel and to Big ‘I’ members is clearly seen in the many ways he has already served the association and in his ongoing passion to encourage agents to serve their communities,” Big “I” president and CEO Charles Symington said.

“We’re grateful for his leadership as the Big ‘I’ continues to provide members with a sustainable competitive advantage as they weather current market conditions.”
