Independent reinsurance broker BMS Re has announced the appointment of Jerry Farrell as executive vice president. Farrell will join the company’s origination team and will report to Mark Wells, head of sales administration, and Pete Chandler, CEO of BMS Re. He will be based in New York.

Farrell has more than 25 years of industry experience, and expertise in professional liability, particularly in the E&O, D&O, and financial lines. His knowledge of the reinsurance industry will bolster BMS Re’s growth and diversification initiatives, the company said.

Prior to joining BMS Re, Farrell served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer at Toa Reinsurance Company. He has also held senior roles at Allied World Reinsurance and Folksamerica Reinsurance.

“As BMS Re continues to expand, it is essential that we carry on attracting industry-leading individuals who will strengthen our capabilities and support our longer-term vision,” Chandler said. “The recruitment of Jerry is an important advance in our efforts to achieve the progress we’re looking for. His specialist knowledge in the reinsurance sector will be a great asset to us. We are fortunate to have Jerry on board.”

“BMS Re has a well-deserved reputation in the professional liability space, and I am thrilled to join them at a time when the market is presenting such fantastic, transformative opportunities,” Farrell said. “The landscape has shifted dramatically, and it is an especially exciting time for independent reinsurance brokers, particularly one positioned as well as BMS Re.”
