International specialty reinsurance company Chaucer has announced the appointment of April McLaughlin (pictured) as head of Latin America treaty reinsurance in Miami. In her new role, McLaughlin will be responsible for leading and growing a multi-line reinsurance offering in the region.

McLaughlin has in-depth knowledge and experience with Latin America, as well as strong client relationships that will help Chaucer build out its reinsurance presence in the region, the company said. Prior to joining Chaucer, McLaughlin was head of Latin America reinsurance at AXA XL. She has also held senior roles at Partner Re. McLaughlin began her insurance career at Lexington.

“I am pleased to welcome April to Chaucer,” said Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer at Chaucer. “She has a wealth of Latin America reinsurance underwriting know-how and a great reputation with brokers and clients. Her appointment emphasizes our commitment to being a lead market for Latin American risks in Miami, which is now such an important hub for the region.”

“I am delighted to join Chaucer’s treaty team, and I look forward to working with the teams in Miami and London to develop Chaucer’s Latin America reinsurance center of excellence for brokers and clients,” McLaughlin said.
