The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) has approved new leadership for its board of directors, effective Jan. 1.

Dino E. Robusto (pictured above), executive chairman of the board at CNA Financial Corporation, has assumed the role of chair, succeeding Alan Schnitzer, CEO of Travelers, who led the board for the past two years.

David A. Bell, president and CEO of ALPS Corporation and ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company, has been named chair-elect.

APCIA president and CEO David A. Sampson highlighted the significance of the appointments.

“David’s thought leadership and energy is inspiring. He will play a vital role in advancing proactive reforms and defensive priorities that promote and protect a healthy insurance marketplace for the benefit of consumers and insurers,” Sampson said. “With Dino and David at the helm, APCIA will continue to advance solutions that address the increasing insurance costs facing families, individuals, and business owners, including supporting mitigation and home-hardening initiatives, and tackling legal system abuse.”

Sampson expressed appreciation for Schnitzer’s contributions, citing his strategic guidance over his two-year tenure as chair. The association will continue to focus on initiatives aimed at mitigating rising insurance costs, including supporting home-hardening measures and addressing legal system inefficiencies.

Robusto serves as executive chairman of CNA Financial Corporation, a role he has held since joining the company in 2016. Under his leadership, CNA has focused on strengthening its underwriting practices.

Before CNA, Robusto spent nearly three decades at Chubb, holding roles including executive vice president and president of its Commercial and Specialty Lines division. He also serves on the boards of Junior Achievement USA and The Institutes. Robusto is a graduate of McGill University and the Wharton Business School Executive Management Program.

Bell is the president and CEO of ALPS Corporation and its subsidiary ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company. His career includes roles as COO of Allied World Assurance Corporation and as an executive protection manager and lobbyist for Chubb.

Bell is a member of several boards, including the Bank of Montana and the Missoula Montana Airport Authority. He is also affiliated with the Mansfield Center and Grateful Nation Montana. Bell holds a degree from the University of Montana.
