Erie Insurance has announced the promotion of Karen Skarupski (pictured above) to the position of senior vice president of human resources. Skarupski's promotion follows the elevation of Sean Dugan to the position of executive vice president of human resources and corporate services in January of this year.

Skarupski boasts an impressive tenure of over 32 years with Erie Insurance, having held various leadership roles in law, human resources, compliance, and privacy. Since 2018, she has served as vice president and corporate privacy officer. Skarupski joined Erie in 1991 when she transitioned from private law practice to the company's law division. During this time, she primarily focused on employment-related legal matters.

Over nearly two decades, Skarupski provided counsel to the company's HR leaders on a wide range of subjects, including employee benefits, diversity and inclusion, compensation, leave and disability issues, compliance and training, and workplace safety and health. Additionally, in 2008, she briefly took on the role of interim division officer for human resources.

“I am grateful for the deep experience, professionalism and knowledge that Karen brings to this senior leadership role,” Dugan said. “Her broad expertise and leadership will be invaluable in helping ERIE navigate today's challenging talent marketplace.”

Skarupski holds certifications as a Certified Information Privacy Manager and a Certified Information Privacy Professional. Skarupski is an active member of the Erie and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, as well as the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America. Additionally, she serves as a trustee of the Erie County Bar Foundation.

Earlier this year, Erie Insurance was recognized by the American Heart Association for its commitment to employee wellbeing. In February, the company ranked number one among personal lines insurers in J.D. Power’s 2022 US Independent Agent Satisfaction Study.
