Everest Re Group has announced the appointment of Ricardo Anzaldua as executive vice president and general counsel, effective June 12.

In his new role, Anzaldua will report to Juan C. Andrade, president and CEO of Everest Re Group, and will serve on the company’s executive leadership team.

“Ricardo is a highly accomplished and trusted strategic advisor whose exceptional legal acumen and extensive knowledge of complex, global business and legal issues make him a valuable addition to our senior leadership team,” Andrade said. “Ricard’s experience in fluently navigating broad regulatory, compliance and litigation issues across the US, Bermuda and other global markets will be an asset as we advance our global strategic objectives. With a proven track record of developing talent and collaborative, diverse and inclusive teams, Ricardo is a high-impact leader who shares Everest’s cultural values.”

Anzaldua has more than three decades of legal, corporate governance and (re)insurance industry experience. Prior to joining Everest Re, he served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Freddie Mac. Before that, he served as executive vice president and general counsel at MetLife. Anzaldua has also held positions at The Hartford Financial Services Group and global law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he was partner and chair of the diversity committee.

Earlier this month, Everest Re announced that it would change its name to Everest Group starting in July. The company also recently announced the appointment of Mike Mulray as president of North America insurance.
