One insurance commissioner is disputing a major global claim – but it is not what you think it is.

After the Guinness World Records (GWR) announced that New York City councilman Robert Cornegy Jr. is the tallest politician in the world, one giant of an insurance commissioner has playfully challenged the declaration.

In a Twitter post following the GWR announcement, Jon Godfread – who serves as North Dakota’s insurance commissioner – has claimed that he is the tallest member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). The commissioner also said that his “next stop” would be to conquer the GWR.

“I don’t think this record will stand for long. @AP @GWR Don’t forget about your friendly Insurance Commissioner in North Dakota. Confirmed tallest @naic, next stop Guinness World Record!” Godfread’s tweet read.

Robert Cornegy Jr. was proclaimed the tallest politician in the world for being 6’10” tall. He is a former professional basketball player, playing for the St. John’s University men’s basketball team.

According to KVRR, Godfread also played basketball. In the 2004-2005 Northern Iowa Men’s Basketball program for his senior year in 2005, Godfread’s height at the time was listed at 6’10” – the same height as Cornegy Jr.

The New York Times reported that Cornegy Jr. received his GWR designation during a ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday.
