The Kentucky Department of Insurance has selected Brian Maynard to be the state’s new insurance commissioner on Jan 12.

Maynard replaces Sharon P. Clark, who had previously served as insurance commissioner since 2008.

He has over 30 years of insurance accounting experience, having spent 16 of those years in the industry and the remaining 14 on the regulatory side.

Since 2004, Maynard had been a contract examiner for the state. He once worked for INS Regulatory Insurance Services, a company representing state insurance departments across the country. Maynard was also the former second vice president of accounting for New Era Life Insurance Company. Since then, he has served in various accounting, consulting, and supervisory roles in companies such as The Freedom Group, United Group Insurance Companies, and Life Insurance Company of the Southwest.

Maynard graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in accounting. Aside from being recognized as a certified financial examiner, he also earned Associate, Insurance Regulatory Compliance (AIRC) from LOMA (the former Life Office Management Association).
