A Louisiana woman has been arrested for her alleged role in selling fake auto insurance online.

Brianna Phillips, 23, of Pineville, LA was arrested on March 09, 2021 for 10 counts of insurance fraud, forgery of certificate of insurance, theft, and advertisements by insurers.

Louisiana State Police said that on June 24, 2020, its LSP Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft (IFAT) Field Office received a complaint from a local insurance agency. The agency said that Phillips was selling fraudulent insurance policies under the Safeway Insurance Company of Louisiana name.

An investigation by the authorities later discovered that Phillips allegedly had managed to sell the fake insurance to a number of victims. She also allegedly provided her victims with counterfeit declaration pages and insurance cards.

Investigators also found that most of Phillips’ alleged victims saw advertisements of her insurance “business” on Facebook Marketplace.

KATC News reported that Phillips was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center without incident.

The police have advised all those who purchased insurance from Phillips to contact their fraud unit.
