Mutual of America Life Insurance Company has announced the appointment of John R. Greed as chairman of the board. Greed, who also serves as Mutual of America’s president and CEO, succeeds Thomas J. Moran, who retired as chairman after more than 40 years with the company.

“I am leaving the company in the very capable hands of John Greed and a leadership team that, like John, is second to none,” Moran said. “He possesses the right combination of experience, expertise and vision to lead and help grow the company, while always remaining committed to the needs of our customers.”

Greed joined Mutual of America in 1996 and was appointed CEO in 2016. Prior to that appointment, he served as president for a year and as senior executive vice president and CFO since December of 2007.

Prior to joining Mutual of America, Greed was a partner at Arthur Andersen. He currently serves on the board of the Life Insurance Council of New York.

“Tom’s extraordinary commitment, remarkable talents and engaging personality were instrumental to the tremendous success the company achieved over more than four decades,” Greed said of Moran. “Fundamental to that success is the caring corporate culture he built focusing on making a difference in the lives of our customers and employees, and in the communities in which they live and work.”
