Former JLT Re chairman Ross Howard – who last November was appointed to serve as Guy Carpenter vice chair effective upon closing of the US$5.6 billion takeover deal between Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) and Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group – is retiring later this year. No exact date for Howard’s departure from the MMC subsidiary has been provided.

An announcement by Guy Carpenter said the reinsurance veteran, whose experience spans more than four decades, will continue to support the company’s integration efforts with JLT Re in the meantime – ensuring that the combined business delivers maximum value.

“I would like to thank Ross Howard for his partnership during the integration process, his advocacy for colleagues and clients across the organization, and his contribution to the reinsurance industry over the past 42 years,” commented Guy Carpenter president & chief executive Peter Hearn.

Meanwhile also leaving the reinsurer is Latin America & Caribbean CEO Aidan Pope, who has been with the firm for 10 years and will stay for a transitionary period to ensure the successful completion of the renewal season as well as the leadership handover.

Other changes at Guy Carpenter include the appointment of Kevin Fisher as chairman of London North America, on top of his previously announced role as chair of UK and Global Specialties. Global Strategic Advisory chair Vicky Carter, meanwhile, has been named chairman of Global Capital Solutions, International.
