State Farm Insurance has revealed that it is posting armed guards in its major locations across America.

According to an internal communication obtained by WGLT, the insurer’s hubs in Atlanta, GA, Bloomington, IL (where the company’s headquarters are), Dallas, TX, and Phoenix, AZ will be getting armed guards. The same corporate document also noted that the change is not a response to any specific threat – it is a move to bring the company up to industry standards.

“These security updates do not reflect a specific threat or concern. These measures are increasingly common in companies of our size and geographic presence and are simply intended to keep pace with current security standards. We have nothing further to add,” State Farm spokesperson Jim Camoriano said in a statement.

On top of adding armed guards to its hubs, State Farm is also considering arming security at its major operations centers. Other measures being considered include more patrols and increased security presence, and additions such as turnstiles and revolving doors.

Notably, the company also said in its internal release that it is not changing its ban on weapons for employees.
