Pioneer Underwriters has promoted London-based Kate McCluskey (pictured) to head of professional indemnity (PI) international and US excess. Brian Denton, on the other hand, is “stepping back” from his position as PI international and PI US excess senior class underwriter, to an underwriting role.

McCluskey, who will be supported by Denton, was a PI underwriter at Pioneer prior to her promotion. She started her insurance career at Brit as underwriting assistant and has more than two decades of industry experience, having worked as underwriter at Antares, Mitsui, and Liberty International.

“I would like to congratulate Kate on her new position,” said Pioneer group director of underwriting Graeme Rayner. “Kate has proven herself to be a skilled technical underwriter and a natural leader, and this promotion is a reflection of the contribution she has made not only to the professional indemnity team but to the whole company.”

Rayner added: “Pioneer’s strategy is to employ and develop a committed team of outstanding senior underwriters capable of delivering superior tailored underwriting solutions, and Kate personifies this approach.”

Pioneer has over 20 underwriting teams working with brokers to serve clients in 10 international locations. The insurer manages £350 million in premiums across 120 Lloyd’s class codes.
