Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) – a unit under Generali Country Italy and Global Business Lines of Assicurazioni Generali – has appointed Alejandro Muñiz (pictured) as its new head of construction & green energy.

Muñiz is the current head of engineering underwriting Iberia & LatAm for GC&C; his role has been expanded with the new appointment. As head of construction and green energy, Muñiz will report to GC&C head of client & broker relationship management Filippo Cinelli.

Through his new position, Muñiz will “revamp” the global construction industry practice in consideration of the sector’s expected growth, a company release said. GC&C also explained that in line with its strategic priorities and due to massive investments coming from governments’ post-pandemic plans, a “special focus” on green energy opportunities will represent a “differentiating factor.”

“I am delighted that Alejandro accepted this challenge. Further enhancing Construction and Green Energy business represents one of the initiatives on which GC&C wants to aim for growth in the years to come,” said GC&C CEO Manlio Lostuzzi, who added that Muñiz’s experience in the sector will be pivotal to the company’s strategy.

Muñiz has over 10 years of experience in the insurance industry, specializing in construction, engineering and energy insurance. He is a graduate of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, with a degree in civil engineering.

Last week, Generali revealed that director Romolo Bardin had resigned from the company’s board. Bardin is the CEO of Delfin S.à r.l. which holds a 6.618% stake in Assicurazioni Generali and is party to the Shareholders’ Agreement stipulated with some organizations of the Caltagirone Group and Fondazione CRT.
