Specialty insurance brokerage CAC Specialty has announced the formal launch of its healthcare division. The launch will enhance the senior living practice the company launched last year as the first move in a plan to build a nationwide, healthcare-specific risk advisory division.

The company has also announced the appointment of J. Kevin Carnell as executive chairman and will be adding more talent to the division in the coming months.

Carnell has more than three decades of industry experience and has managed some of the nation’s leading hospital insurance programs. He is recognized as a thought leader in the healthcare industry for helping clients navigate complex risks through long-term risk financing vehicles. Carnell most recently served as healthcare division director and RCM&D chief legal officer for Union Risk Advisors.

“We are delighted to have Kevin, an esteemed leader in the healthcare insurance industry, lead our growing healthcare division,” said Bruce Denson Jr., president of CAC Specialty and Cobbs Allen. “We are following the same proven leadership model used in our natural resources division: bringing in exceptionally talented individuals with unrivaled expertise in the field and giving them the freedom and independence to run with it.”

In his new role, Carnell will be responsible for staffing and growing the division and providing counsel on the implementation of alternative risk programs, captive insurance company formation and reinsurance negotiation.

Carnell holds a BA in English and communications from the University of Delaware and a juris doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law.

CAC Specialty was named one of Insurance Business’s Fast Brokerages 2022, a list of brokerages that distinguished themselves by maintaining more than 20% growth over the previous two calendar years.
