The real productivity problem in insurance isn't where everyone's looking

The following article has been supplied by Akash Samant, CEO, Coverflow.

At Coverflow, we've built our entire product around one part of the insurance business: everything that happens after a policy is bound. Renewals. Endorsements. Certificates. The quiet, constant task of checking a new policy against the one it's replacing to make sure nothing changed that shouldn't have, and flagging what did. We think this is one of the most important productivity problems in insurance today.

None of this shows up in a client pitch. But it's the work that determines whether an agency's best people spend their week advising clients or buried in paperwork.

Talk to a service team at almost any agency and you'll hear some version of the same complaint: a huge share of the week goes to comparing documents line by line, understanding a new endorsement, a changed sublimit, a coverage gap a carrier quietly introduced at renewal. It's meticulous and thankless work, but it matters. Miss the wrong thing and you've got an E&O claim, not just an annoyed client. It's also exactly the kind of work we built Coverflow to handle.

Why deep beats shallow

For most AI vendors, this work is done at the surface level, but at Coverflow we obsess over the specific details. We think most conversations in AI are asking the wrong questions. It’s not just about why a single workflow is slow - uploading the same documents over and over again and getting the same result - it’s why an account manager is still the one moving the data in the first place. Speeding up a task feels like progress, and it is: taking a 30-minute policy check down to 5 minutes removes real overhead. But it doesn't remove the full task. At the end of the day the account manager still logs into the carrier portal, downloads the policy, moves it into the AMS, enters data, and sends the confirmation email. Those little moments add up and still take time away from clients. 3 minutes here, 5 minutes there, and all of a sudden a day still passes without any real work being done. Your account manager is still burned out.

At Coverflow, we’re asking a deeper question: why does anyone need to do the three steps before sending out the email? Connect the carrier portal, the AMS, and the proposal directly, and the account manager stops being a mule. That's the difference between a point solution and one that manages the entire workflow end-to-end.

Redefining what productivity means for an agency

That shift, from speeding up steps to removing it altogether, is what actually changes the productivity equation for an agency. And it shows up in revenue capacity per employee. Every hour a producer or account manager spends comparing policy documents or retyping data into the AMS is an hour not going toward new business or renewals.

One of our partner agencies, Legacy Insurance Partners, processed 40% more business in 83% less time. That effort went back into their book to grow their agency.

The real opportunity

Legacy Insurance isn't an outlier. The agencies pulling ahead over the next few years won't be the ones choosing AI for its own sake. They'll be the ones that thought about the technology from first principles and organized true changes around their workflows.

Venbrook, a national insurance brokerage and one of our best clients, has scaled to 350+ carrier partners while holding a 97% client retention rate.  The impact for them doesn’t just show up as time - it shows up as reduced burnout, happier clients, real learning and faster growth.

Early-career staff who used to spend the first 2-3 years on manual checking get pulled into real client conversations sooner and contribute faster, 30 year veterans are able to get back to doing the work they signed up for, and the whole brokerage grows as a result.

Those are the stories that inspire us at Coverflow - it’s what we fight for every day, and what we continue to build for.
