Dwelling Coverage

General Information

Insurance protection for the physical dwelling/building occupied by the insured as a primary residence. This also covers detached structures on the property – such as a shed and garage.

Product Coverage

Many insurance policies are offered on an “All Risk” basis. This means that the dwelling is insured for all types of losses unless it is specifically excluded. Common occurrences covered in a policy include fire, damage from wind & hail, theft and certain water-related damage.

Product Exclusion

Events such as flood, use of the dwelling for business or farming purposes, intentional damage and illegal activities.

Product FAQ

  • It is not legally mandatory to have property insurance. However, if your property is financed with a mortgage, your lender will most likely require you to have home insurance coverage in case of damage caused by unforeseen circumstances.
  • If you are currently renting, it is not a legal requirement to obtain tenant’s insurance. However, it is highly recommended that tenant’s insurance is obtained to cover damage to your belongings and personal liability in the event of a covered claim.
  • Your homeowner’s insurance policy covers your personal property and your liability. It also extends coverage to your spouse, any person under the age of 21 in your care and immediate family members.
