When we think of flooding, we automatically see finished rec rooms and thousands of dollars of electronics being ruined by backed-up sewers or rising flood waters.

But your business clients can be affected too – and the cost can reach beyond the hundreds of thousands of dollars into the millions.

In some very unfortunate cases, it can mean closing down the business altogether.

“That is why it is important for businesses to have the right coverage in place, and for brokers to explain to their clients of the need for such coverage, and for the proper steps to be taken to mitigate the loss before it happens,” says Mark Sampson, Senior Vice President at Arthur J. Gallagher Canada Limited.

To mitigate the risks, Mark suggests that businesses take stock of the electronic equipment in the basement as a flood can create a host of problems once the waters recede. In addition to the danger that water can bring to inventory, the threat of mold growth following a flood can lead to myriad health concerns for the employees.

When it comes to ensuring that the right coverage is in place, RSA is taking a proactive approach by informing, educating and supporting brokers and clients via their Climate Smart resource hub. This hub provides brokers with insights, tools and resources that are designed specifically to help educate their clients on how to prevent and reduce the risk of climate and weather related damages.
