What do brokers think should be the most important factor when determining premium point for the driverless car? No one thinks it should be driver history.

The recent Insurance Business poll found that brokers overwhelmingly believed that ‘Location and Usage’ should be the determining factor in decided premium for the Driverless Car – a technology that is now being road-tested in the United States.

Only 20 per cent believed that ‘Automobile History’ should determine premium, along with 20 per cent who thought it should be ‘Strictly on UBI.’

Ironically, one of the major determining factors in auto insurance today, 'Driver History,' didn’t receive a single vote from brokers as being the most important factor.

Our next poll looks at the moves being made by non-traditional retailers into the insurance space, like Wal-Mart and IKEA. Do clients still believe brokers hold value with their knowledge and expertise of insurance products? Or are potential customers turning to ‘one-stop shopping’ alternatives, unwilling to understand the difference between an IKEA coverage and one from a traditional insurer?
