Canopius Group has appointed Stacey Alioto as group chief operating officer, effective September 2026. Alioto will report to group CEO Neil Robertson and join the group leadership team, the London-headquartered specialty and property and casualty reinsurer announced.
Alioto joins from HSBC, where she most recently served as deputy group chief operating officer. During more than 25 years at the bank, she led operations spanning more than 60 markets and managed teams of up to 10,000 employees. She is based in Chicago.
Robertson said Alioto brings "exceptional depth of operational leadership that aligns closely with our ambition and scalable growth trajectory," and that she would help the company build on its operational foundations and work with its new Centre of Operational Excellence to drive efficiency across the group.
Alioto said she was excited to be joining Canopius "at such an important point in its journey," citing the group's international reach, clear growth trajectory, and culture focused on performance and collaboration.
Alioto succeeds Kate Roy, who joined Canopius in 2021 and is retiring after a five-year tenure as group COO. Canopius did not disclose terms of the appointment.
The appointment comes as Canopius continues to scale its operations. The group reported a 16% rise in profit after tax to US$467 million for the year ended December 31, 2025.
Insurance contract premiums for the period reached US$4.48 billion, up 27% from the prior year. That rate was roughly four times faster than the broader Lloyd's market, which reported premium growth of approximately 6% to 6.5% over the same period.
Canopius has also been building out a Centre of Operational Excellence in Manchester as a dedicated hub for technology, data, and operational functions. The Manchester office, opened permanently in April 2026, is expected to support further international expansion and process standardization across the group.
Alioto's appointment is one of several senior leadership moves at Canopius taking effect in September. The group also named Nadine Moore as CEO of its US business for the same month. Moore's hire is part of a broader push to expand Canopius' US retail and wholesale platform.
Canopius operates through Lloyd's Syndicate 4444, Canopius US Insurance Inc., and Canopius Reinsurance Limited in Bermuda. It employs more than 1,000 professionals across offices in the US, UK, Australia, Bermuda, Singapore, and other markets.
