An insurance broker from Pickering, Ontario, Mary Berg has made it into the top 8 contestants vying for the title of Canadian Masterchef.

The decision came after an episode that commenced with Mary, as one of the winners of the previous week's Elimination Challenge, chosen to be team captain in a challenge that ultimately saw her team serve a guest a raw sausage, while Mary herself sustained a bad burn to her thumb from working on the grill.

Not having won the initial challenge, Mary’s team and the other losing team were made to face a Pressure Test, a task revealed to be preparing fresh ricotta cheese and then using it to produce handmade ravioli as well as gnudi in an hour, a task described by producers of the show as “one of the toughest Pressure Tests in Masterchef Canada history.” It was this test of her mettle that saw Mary declared safe, due to her ricotta stuffed ravioli in a lemon brown butter sauce, and olive oil and tomato gnudi.

Mary worked with Toronto-area brokerage Cade Associates for more than 5 years, starting part time as she completed her Master’s degree and becoming a full broker several years ago.
