Relay For Life is a 12-hour overnight fundraiser that brings communities together to celebrate life and fight cancer. One insurer has committed $25,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society in Ottawa, Ont.

Economical Insurance's increased commitment to Relay For Life,” said Martin Kabat, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division. “The support of corporate partners like Economical helps us to raise money to fund life-saving cancer research, and to offer support services which help local cancer patients and their families, such as our Wheels of Hope transportation program which helped 379 Ottawa residents get to cancer treatment last year.”
Economical Insurance has committed $25,000 in title sponsorships towards the charity’s four local Relay For Life events:
• Ottawa Centre: Extreme Relay. June 6, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., Nepean Sportsplex
• Ottawa East: Relay Around the World. June 13, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., Millennium Park, Orléans
• Ottawa West: Corporate Challenge. June 13, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m., Walter Baker Park, Kanata.
The first event was held on May 23 for Ottawa South.
Teams of 10 to 15 gather with cancer survivors at the venues listed below and take turns walking laps all night long. Each team keeps at least one member on the track at all times, while all around them the party is in full swing. Teams stay overnight in decorated tent cities, united in their celebration of life with music, food, activities and entertainment.

Economical has been a Relay For Life sponsor since 2006. With this sponsorship, the company boosts its title sponsorship of the Canadian Cancer Society's signature fundraiser to $94,500, supporting 10 events in Ontario and Quebec.
Founded in 1871, Economical Insurance has $1.9 billion in annual premium volume and $5 billion in assets as of March 31.
