Intact Financial has introduced changes to its leadership team with several role switches and a new appointment.

Pete Weightman has been introduced in the newly created role of senior vice-president and chief underwriting officer of specialty solutions in North America. A release said that Weightman will be focused on keeping Intact’s combined ratio in North American specialty solutions around the low 90s. He will also assume responsibility for all managing general agent operations for the company.

Carla Smith has been tapped to fill in the role of senior vice-president of specialty solutions in Canada. Intact said that she will draw on her operational background in claims, direct distribution and broker channels for her new role, which will see her focus on expanding Intact’s specialty solutions distribution channel. Smith will also help strengthen the company’s relationships with brokers.

Ken Anderson, meanwhile, will be promoted to senior vice-president of investor relations & corporate development. He will continue to lead the investor relations team, while building on the company’s strong M&A success record.

“We are announcing executive changes to build on the experience of our talent and advance on our goals of strengthening our leadership position in Canada and building a leading North American specialty insurer,” commented Intact CEO Charles Brindamour.

Earlier this month, Intact Financial acquired The Guarantee Company of North America and Frank Cowan Company Limited. In a release covering the transaction’s closure, Brindamour said that the move would strengthen Intact’s position in Canada while establishing a leading specialty insurer operating in North America.
