Axis Insurance Managers (Axis Insurance) has announced that JT Insurance Services (Canada) has officially joined the firm, strengthening its position in the commercial insurance market, particularly real estate, construction and high-net-worth segments. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

JT Insurance, founded in 1969 and based in British Columbia, will become part of Axis Insurance’s newly formed Commercial Insurance Practice Group. The move adds to its sector-specific expertise, said Axis Insurance, supporting a broader national growth strategy.

JT Insurance owners James and Sheri Clay will remain in leadership roles, providing continuity for existing clients and supporting integration efforts.

Axis Insurance’s expansion efforts continue

The acquisition contributes to Axis Insurance’s expansion in Western Canada and aligns with its approach of building out specialist practice areas through strategic acquisitions. The firm said it has been active in expanding its capabilities across industries and client types, with a focus on combining local expertise with national scale.

Axis Insurance currently operates 16 practice groups and employs more than 350 people. The firm offers a full range of services, including personal and commercial insurance, life and disability coverage, employee benefits, and wealth advisory solutions. Clients include individuals, privately held businesses, public companies, and non-profit organisations.

The company traces its roots back to 1928 and has grown to become one of the larger independent insurance brokerages in Canada. Growth has been driven by a combination of acquisitions and organic development across markets.

Axis also follows an employee ownership model, which it said supports alignment between performance and business outcomes. Employees are eligible to hold equity in the firm, contributing to its retention strategy and internal leadership development.

The addition of JT Insurance is expected, said Axis Insurance, to support further development of its commercial practice and enhance service delivery in sectors that require specialised coverage.
