The largest association of plaintiffs’ lawyers in the US is suing its insurer.

The American Association for Justice is suing Lloyd’s of London for denying a US$1 million coverage claim after the association’s 2020 annual conference was cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, according to a Reuters report. The lawsuit was filed in federal court Monday.

Lloyd’s has not substantively responded to the association’s allegations. Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders, the insurer’s law firm, did not respond to a request for comment, Reuters reported.

Over the past year, there has been a raft of lawsuits filed against insurers for denying COVID-19-related claims – often by businesses who say their business interruption protection should cover pandemic-related closures.
